Aboitiz Power hikes power-generating capacity of coal plants

Aboitiz Power Corporation (AP) is increasing the capacity of 2 coal-fired power projects in Davao and Cebu that are in the pipeline.

Aboitiz Power said its board of directors has approved the construction of additional power generating units for the company’s coal projects.

“The notices to proceed for the additional units for both projects are expected to be issued by March 2015,” it said.

Originally rated at 300 megawatts (MW) each, the company’s Davao and Cebu coal projects will now have capacities of 470 MW and 510 MW, respectively, after the expansion.

The company did not disclose how much additional investments will be needed for the expansion.
